Pastor's insights . . .
Talking to people in the church, something that seems to be
coming up over and over again is one word: TRUST. The
dictionary defines trust as: 1) Reliance on the integrity,
strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing;
confidence. 2) Expectation of something; hope, 3)
Certainty of future payment for property or goods received;
credit: to sell merchandise on trust. 4) A person on whom or
thing on which one relies: God is my trust.
The Old Testament warns us against
personally having trust in things, money, other people and
even ourselves. Proverbs 28:26, He who trusts in
himself is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom is kept safe.
Proverbs 11:28, Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but
the righteous will thrive like a green leaf. Isaiah
31:1, "Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on
horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in
horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto
the Holy One of Israel, neither seek The Lord!"
Jeremiah 17:5-7, This is what the Lord says: Cursed is
the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh
and whose heart turns away from the Lord. That person will be
like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity
when it comes. They will dwell in the parched places of
the desert, in a salt land where no one lives [ ...

Union) conference in Florida. In his place,
Rev. Vladimir Strejcek will be the guest
